The Year of The Yang Water Dragon Chinese AstrologyThe Year of The Yang, Water Dragon

2012

In 2011, the metal element symbolized a weapon or a dagger, but in 2012, the earth water conflict is just disharmony with fewer indications of war and fierce fighting than 2011. Yang water symbolizes the ocean, is an element of power, force and strong energy. It could be a destructive force of nature such as the tsunami, or it can be the impulse and drive to press for social, political  and economic changes. The yang water is also symbol of intelligence, courage, generosity and charity. If the energy is guided in positive direction, it can accelerate progress and reform. In general, we cannot expect a totally peaceful world in 2012, but there will not be as much fighting as in 2010 and 2011.

The more worrying aspect this year is the possibility of natural disasters such as flooding and earthquakes. Yang water is powerful ocean water, and Dragon is powerful earth, very often associated with earthquakes. The most serious earthquakes on record happened in the years of the Dragon. This included the biggest earthquake on the record of the Richter Magnitude Scale 9.2, occurring in Alaska in 1964, and the most fearful earthquake in Tangshan, China, killing over 250,000 people in 1976. As such, it is quite logical to forecast that a serious earthquake will also occur in this Water Dragon year. In Chinese metaphysics, the Dragon symbolizes a massive mountain range, the powerful energy of the land, and is a strong earth element, so an active dragon indicates strong movements of the earth.

The Chinese calendar year goes on 60-year cycle. This means that we have experienced the same year of yang water Dragon in 1952. This was the year when the Korean War was at the stalemate after it started in 1950, the newly elected President Eisenhower visited Korea and look for ways to end the war and prepared to negotiate an armistice. The cold war continued with more nuclear weapon tests by the USA, and UK also announced they possessed the atomic bomb. There were also natural disasters in 1952. The serious earthquake that occurred at Kamchatka, USSR, triggered a tsunami which was felt as far as Hawaii. 73 inches of rain fell in Cilao Reunion, the heaviest rain recorded in one day. 78 seal hunters and 5 Norwegian seal hunting ship perished without trace, North Sea flooding killed 1835 people in the Southwest of Netherlands, 307 people died in the UK and 133 people died in the Irish sea with the sinking of a ferry called the Princess Victoria. There were other mysteries such as reporting of UFO over Washington DC in July. 58000 cases of polio is reported in the USA. Such events match with the nature of the yang water Dragon.

The Chinese character for “yang water” represents a powerful ocean and can also symbolize the quality of enthusiasm, energy, courage and force. Such qualities are often found in people in performance art as well as people who love to explore new innovation. People born on a day of “Yang Water” often show courage and power. One example of famous Yang Water people is Ludwig von Beethoven. He is a strong Yang water person and his powerful symphony music exactly reflects the energy of the ocean water.  Another yang water person is Mr. Bill Gates. Other examples of famous  people born on a “yang water ” day are Tom Cruise, Warren Buffet, Paul McCartney, Kate Middleton, Prince Henry, Gwyneth Paltrow, Michael Douglas, Freddie Mercury and Joan Jett. They all portray a courageous, innovative and trend setting image. Besides innovative businessmen and artists, yang water people often study Feng shui and metaphysics.

Airlines are in the category of the fire element, and when the fire element is very weak or absent, there could be problems in the airline business. We should expect disruptions to airlines, and environmental problems could occur.

Regarding the economy, the fire element is often the driving force behind the stock market.   The five elements also affect people’s moods. A fire year generates optimism and drives up the stock market, as 2006 and 2007, but in 2008 the water arrived and people began to have fear about worsening of the USA prime and sub-prime problem and recession. In 2009 there was a setback with the economic crisis in Greece and Portugal, but in May, the stock market recovered with momentum. In 2011, the stock market continued to be vibrant and active in first half of 2011 until August. There was a setback in second half of 2011. 2012 is year of water and earth, so it could be a year that the economic activities and stock market will experience a further slowdown. This could become more serious in October and November.

The water earth element of 2012 is expected to bring some prosperity to wood industries and provide gains to earth industries, including textile, paper, books, media, environment industries, food and consumer goods. The second best industries could be earth industries such as property, mining and insurance. Less favoured industries are water, which include shipping, drinking, transport and communications. Fire industries such as finance, stock and energy could be unstable.

The animals combining with the Dragon year are the Monkey, the Rat, and the Rooster. These animals are into a year of harmony.
